This blog provides a forum for former employees to record their memories of the many space exploits of the Hughes Aircraft Company and is jointly sponsored by Steve Dorfman and Jack Fisher.
I remember a proposal by Hughes. It was called the Hughes Transport Satellite/Spacecraft/System (HTS). It consisted of two spacecraft, a Leasat bus and a second spacecraft mounted on top of it. The Leasat bus would deliver the second spacecraft to GSO and then separate. The bus would also have a payload on it so that after delivery, it could function as another GSO spacecraft. I remember the presentation showing a DSP spacecraft straddling a UHF antenna on a Leasat bus. The size of the primary spacecraft dictated the propellant load of the bus. Does anybody else recall this?
